Ange Postecoglou lost his first match as Tottenham’s manager as West Ham defeated them 3-2 in a nail-biting preseason friendly in Australia.

Gianluca Scamacca scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute, six minutes after Spurs had rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

Postecoglou would have been inspired by his team’s aggressive performance despite the loss, especially after Tottenham had 30 shots and 71% of the possession.

But in Perth, West Ham was able to score with three of their four shots on goal thanks to defensive mistakes.

Danny Ings nodded in the opening goal for the Hammers in the 18th minute, and Divin Mubama then glanced in to give the team a 2-0 halftime lead.

Harry Kane, who captained the team despite intense interest from Bayern Munich, as well as recent additions Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon, were substituted for the complete Spurs XI for the second half.

In the 69th minute, Giovani Lo Celso slammed a low, close-range volley past Lukasz Fabianski to give Spurs their first goal of the game.

Three minutes later, Destiny Udogie scored his first goal for Spurs by glancing in Ivan Perisic’s corner.

But after a third consecutive victory, substitute Scamacca gave the Irons the victory with a composed one-on-one finish, ensuring that David Moyes’ team is still undefeated in preseason play.
