Centre at Minto rec complex at 3500 Cambrian Rd
There were reports of a possible tornado in the Barrhaven community, approximately 20 kilometers south of downtown. At 1 p.m. EDT, the Ottawa Fire Service received reports of a tornado near Umbra Place, just west of Highway 416. The Ottawa Police Service also stated that a comparable report had been received.
Other social media photos and videos, as well as emails sent to the CBC, also showed the funnel cloud. There are presently no reports of injuries or significant losses. The Minto Recreation Complex at 3500 Cambrian Road contains, according to the Ottawa Police Service, a family reunification center.
Approximately 1,800 Hydro Ottawa customers in the area were without power. At 12:50 p.m., Environment Canada issued a tornado watch for Kanata, Orleans, and the downtown area.
A tornado warning indicates that a tornado has been reported or that there are strong indications that one is imminent. As part of the warning, it is best to seek shelter on the lowest level of a stable building and away from exterior walls.
A tornado watch extends from Renfrew to the Quebec border and from Maniwakee to Ottawa-Gatineau to Kingston in the late afternoon.
